An alternative to the symlink is to set the environment variable
TEXPSHEADERS to "/usr/local/share/lilypond/1.6.6/tex/:"
Actually, in order to find the postscript headers I think .../ps is
needed, not .../tex.
Anyway, neither one fixes xdvi for me. I tried a number of
variations (.../ps//, .../ps, .../1.6.6//, etc.). I always get
gs: Error: /undefined in set_tex_dimen
which I believe is a symptom of not reading music-drawing-routines.ps.
Trying xdvi -debug -1 shows that it is not reading the TEXPSHEADERS
environment variable at all. Bizarre.
What finally worked for me was to do
export HOMETEXMF=/usr/local/gnu/share/lilypond/1.6.6
Now if only I could figure out how to get my mandolin tablature working
again :).
Thanks,
