This is clearly a bug! The vertical placement of the instrument name seems to be centered relative to the total extent of the Staff, including the sustain pedals. Example (for version 2.4): \version "2.4" \new Staff { \set Staff.instrument = "Instrument" \clef bass c4 \sustainDown c''2 c4 \sustainUp} I don't really understand what's going on here, since notes with ledger lines don't change the alignment of the instrument name, even if they change the total vertical extent of the Staff. /Mats
