Try "make" or "make default" instead of "make all" to build sans
documentation.

For a successful build including documentation on a Gentoo box, you need
latest stable versions of the following:

guile
ghostscript-afpl or ghostscript-gnu (vanilla ghostscript is not at 8.15
yet in portage)
tetex
python
perl
texinfo
flex
make
mftrace (you will need to unmask 1.1.17)
fontforge (you will need to unmask 20050624)
bison
imagemagick
netpbm

To compile without patching, you'll also want to upgrade your system to
GCC 3.4.
