m4-1.4.x doesn't actually use gnulib, and I had to revert the import of regex
from gnulib into branch-1-4 earlier this year as it broke on some hosts that
the previous regex (as in the one shipped with 1.4.4) worked with.

Since regex.c in gnulib has had a lot of bugfixes since February, I'll try
again in the upcoming alphas for m4-2.0.
