Thanks for the report. However, I had also found it, and already patched
it in CVS (with the same patch), prior to your email. It only affects
relatively corner case code, which has a dangling backslash:
regexp(string, regex, \)
And the bug of reading beyond string bounds was also present in m4 1.4.4,
just the testsuite had no coverage for it. So it is not too likely to
bite real code uses. But I will be releasing 1.4.6 in the near future to
fix this, and any other issues that turn up in the next week or so.
