The difference is more than 512k; I'm now pretty sure that the problem is
that a diversion exceeded the 512k limit, and was stashed to a temporary
file, but then when it was time to flush all diversions on exit, that the
temporary file is not being read correctly.  I'm not sure what is going
wrong here; we may need strace output (although that will be rather large,
since we are dealing with a half-meg temporary file holding a diversion)
to help see where things went wrong.  Let me play with this some more
(hopefully the config.log output will shed some light on things first),
and see if I can come up with a better command line for you to strace.
