Thanks for the report.  However, you failed to tell us what the error
actually was (you did a tail of too few lines of the output), or even on
what platform you are attempting to compile.

There are known reports of errors on GNU/Linux systems, with some kernel
versions failing readlinkat tests, and failure to compile with newer
glibc due to a gnulib misuse of gets(); both of these are fixed in
m4.git and I hope to release a new version of m4 before the year is out
to make it easier to access these fixes.  Here's hoping that's the
failure you saw, in which case it is already known and will be fixed in
that upcoming release.
