[PATCH 0/2] Autoconf improvements

I have committed the following 2 patches to master in commit
289e4c505e52402e5dfba08d57f2ba1d61a90bf3.

I thought I submitted them for review a week ago but I have just noticed
that that I forgot to include <address@hidden> as a recipient to my
mails. -_-

Sorry for the mistake.  I can revert if necessary.
