It seems that the keyboard being in UTF-8 mode is the problem because 'Á' in 
UTF-8 is the sequence 0xC3,0x81.

In my text console, 'kbd_mode' swows:
  The keyboard is in the default (ASCII) mode
And in my terminal emulator (Konsole) it shows:
  The keyboard is in raw (scancode) mode
