He's complaining afaik about unnecessary repainting (which can be
alleviated by tinkering with wnoutrefresh and doupdate -- but for
practical purposes perhaps the panel library does this better since
that's one of the things it's designed to do).
as for the "blue" - no idea, unless the application is temporarily
painting in that color. I'd test that by capturing the screen output
with 'script' and analyzing the typescript file.
