any upcoming changes that will create binary incompatibilities?

Hi,

I've heard that the reason that I could not get > 8 colors is that to
have the ncurses-library support this, it'll become binary incompatible
with previous versions of the library. Now the maintainer of the
distribution I use is waiting for another reason to break things as he
needs to increase the soversion to 6. So my question now is: is there
anything big coming up which at itself would also require recompilation
like this > 8 color-thing does?
