I should have clarified something earlier, though I am using talkingarch for a Linux distribution the oleo package got downloaded directly from sourceforge and didn't use any archlinux packaging to build to this point. figured doing so would keep complications to a minimum that way.

You might also get a "config.log" file created during the configure run,
it would be good to have it.
