Thanks, I installed that, with a "Copyright-paperwork-exempt: true" line in the commit message (rather than with a "Signed-off-by:" line) as per the usual Gnu rules.

This problem has been in GNU Tar for a decade. On my Ubuntu 23.04 platform, which says it has dash 0.5.12-2ubuntu1, the tests didn't fail, though they wrongly didn't test either. Is your 'dash' newer and pickier?
