Hello,
this is with texi2any 6.6 and texinfo.tex 2019-08-25.17.
It seems that ampersand characters appearing in function, variable names
etc., even written as @ampchar{}, are not handled properly in the index.
I've attached a test file which allows to reproduce the problem.
Basically, and contrary to the other special characters, the @ampchar
commands "leak" into the .fn, .vr files etc.
