I have not much knowledge on the subject, but I had rapid look at the
Synctex documentation and I tried
$ texi2dvi -t '\synctex=1' texinfo.texi
However it did not seem to work.
I also tried
pdftex -synctex=1 texinfo.texi
texindex texinfo.??
pdftex -synctex=1 texinfo.texi
texindex texinfo.??
pdftex -synctex=1 texinfo.texi
This leads to the creation of texinfo.synctex.gz, so it has probably worked
as expected.
