   Yes.  In general: no shell, no compatible utilities, ..., no hope.

   Do you mean like this?:

   Complaining is very enjoyable, though.  Of course, it's more
enjoyable when it's effective (as it generally is here).  Apparently,
complaining about the fundamental GNU regex problem gets one advice like
"get the compiler fixed":
