I think the reverse is actually more true!
RFC7230 and friends (as a collection) is the revised version of RFC2616 much
based on what clients and servers actually do today in the wild. The emphasis
has been to remove ambiguities, to clarify confusing text and to adapt to how
the protocol is actually used.
Things no longer permitted should be very rarely used (things like header line
continuation).
I don't think anyone expects any particular major changes in any software due
to these new specs, but they will greatly help clarify how the protocol was
always intended to work. And new implementers will have much better specs that
will lead them down much fewer dangerous footpaths along steep mountain sides.
