Hello Naman,
We welcome your prospective contributions to wget.
The first thing you should do is build the development version of wget from the repository. wget uses a git respoitory at git://git.savannah.gnu.org/wget.git I don't expect that you find problems there, but feel free to ask any doubt. The main development happens on this mailing list. After you prepare a patch, you should send it here for inclusion, where it can be discussed or -if there are no issues- simply get pushed by the maintainer. Of course, you can also comment on other people patches, too. If you make non-trivial changes, you may be asked to transfer copyright to FSF. But it's not something to concern about for now.

What to contribute? Well, that's up to you. I recommend that you start by looking at something that you want fixed, but you can also look at the bugs listed at savanna http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?group=wget for one that you find appropiate for attempting to fix it.

Although as you are starting, I recommend you to tell us before (on this mailing list) about what you are going to do, in case there is something special to take into account.

Best regards
