What's the point of doing that?

Unless the file was changed in that year (with copyrightable changes), 
AFAIK the copyright year wouldn't change, no matter what the label says. 
And given that nowadays, the important date is that of the authors 
death, it's even more pointless. Once upon a time (before 1989) such 
notices made sense (in the US), but now I don't think it does anywhere 
(although IANAL)
