Hi Everyone,

It is really great to see the response we've had this year to our GSoC '15 project proposals. This year, between Giuseppe Scrivano, Tim Ruehsen and me, we put forward three project ideas and have received some very good quality of student communication in response.

To all potential GSoC students, if you haven't yet, please check out the Wiki pages[1] for information about applying to GNU Wget for a GSoC Project this year.

The Student Proposal Application period is due to start in a little over 48 hours from now. While it is absolutely brilliant to see all of you taking a shot at our open bugs and even submitting patches to fix them, you must remember that your application depends on the actual proposal you send us too! Having experience with the code base, but no idea about what your project will be, will not make for a good proposal.

I would like to see the current level of enthusiasm about Wget continue and look forward to merging more patches into our code. But, I also urge all the potential candidates to begin taking a harder look at the project they would like to apply for. Please start working with the community and your mentors and begin planning a roadmap for your project. The proposal you send us will require you to concretely define the project, the intermediate steps and any potential roadblocks. For your convenience, I've uploaded a couple of sample proposals on the GSoC '15 Wiki pages[2]

Remember, the earlier you submit the proposal, the more time you give the mentors to evaluate you and fix any chinks in the proposals. If you only submit your proposal 2 hours before the deadline, we may not have the time to evaluate it and give you any feedback.

Looking forward to talking to you all and having more regular contributors amongst us!
