Details:

The Ctrl key was in earlier versions used to temporary show previous position,
but the function is now default bound to the "." key. However there it
conflicts with the "Type a move" function.

When you press "." two things happen:
1) The previous position is displayed
2) The Type a move window pops up with a "."

When you release "." nothing happens. The shown position is not restored.
