No, it was left untouched. I did test
dvd+rw-format /dev/sr0
and
dvd+rw-format -ssa=268435456 /dev/sr0
both did not write to the disk. I did not test the large spare are of 768MB, since this works already with xorriso and growisofs. It is very likely a drive issue, so the mail subject is misleading ...

My old is a BH10LS30 and does its job except for the spare size command. The new will be a BH16NS55. I make the next test when the drive arrives.
