and there is obviously a regression on this probably due to the lack
of windows testing.

I'm really sorry about that.
If you can be kind enough to fix this with an appropriate small patch
I'll update CVS HEAD right after that... and may be release 3.4.2 in order
to avoid further problem for Windows users.
