Ah! That explains my confusion. I didn't know this fact. I thought chicken
would analyze (load/use ...) files and compile them as well.

I'm just feeling out my options and learning the situations when something
is forced to compile and when something is intepreted. Your statement about
explicit compilation did a lot to clear things up for me.
