[Chicken-hackers] slow down, folks

Hi!


Can we please slow down the rather frantic hacking on the trunk?
I'm trying to make a release and code is checked in from all sides,
which has to time to settle, and which is of varying quality.

I have added another branch called "prerelease" that will be
used as a staging area to get some stability before pushing a
version into the "release" branch, from which the release
tarballs are generated.
