Pushed a few days ago.

As mentioned then, I think it'd also be worth investigating whether or
not we can omit the conditional when the caller's argument count is
known. Seems like this ought to be possible, but we might not have that
info close at hand. (That's in addition to investigating reusing a
single argvector, of course).
