Hmm, seems to me that cons *is* a script, and certainly the most qualified
script to do cache cleanup.  Perhaps a new feature could be a flag that
simply cleans up the cache and exits?

But you do now have to have a script to prune the cache.  Just looking
at link count will not be enough.
