Perl & DDD - variables values appear as '....'

Hi All,

I've used ddd for a while with C, but trying to do so with Perl is odd - 
when trying to obtain the variable values, I see only '....' 

I've set the #! line to:

#!/usr/bin/perl
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
#!/usr/bin/perl -d
#!/usr/bin/perl -d -w 

and invoked it as 

ddd --perl 'script.pl'

and then set the parameters via the "Run" menu selection/

tall o the same effect.  Is there some other flag that has to be set?
