ddd question Waiting until GDB gets ready.

Some of my users are getting this message when they debug on Centos 5.2 and run ddd 3.3.9. 

I can recall seeing this same problem years ago, but, I cannot for the life of me recall what the problem is. 

Can you point me in the direction of some things to try? 

I have tried telling ddd that that the inferior debugger is gdb and all that.

After starting ddd with this file, the source window displays the main

function, and when entering any command (even a return in the gdb command

window), DDD hangs with the message: "...: waiting until GDB gets ready).

CPU usage is continuous 100% when this happens.
