Hi John --

I'm glad to hear that you are trying to build ddd-3.4.0 on Solaris.

I need more information than the snippet you provided. Can you capture all of the output of your build and send it to me:
  $ make 2>&1 | tee make.log

BTW, gcc-4.8.2 is very old; the current version is gcc-12.2. Similarly, ddd-3.3.9 is nearly 20 years old.

DDD, the DATA DISPLAY DEBUGGER, version 3.4.0 has been released.

DDD is a graphical front end for GDB (and other debuggers) with an
intuitive interface and an interactive graphical display for data.
This release, the first since 2009, has been updated to support
current OS and library versions, improve the build process, fix a
number of bugs as well as make a number of enhancements.

DDD's maintainers are Stefan Eickler and Michael Eager.  Please
send questions or comments to mailto:ddd@gnu.org.

Information about DDD can be found on the DDD project page:

I tried building 3.4.0 on Solaris 11.3/Sparc using the same options that successfully built 3.3.9.  The following undefined symbols resulted.

Undefined                       first referenced
  symbol                             in file
TextSetSelection(_WidgetRec*, long, long, unsigned long) ddd.o
string_Scopy(strRep*, strRep*)      ddd.o
__1cPRegionGraphNodeG_print6kMrnDstdNbasic_ostream4Ccn0BLchar_traits4Cc____rknHGraphGC__v_
 graph/BoxGraphN.o
__1cDstdNbasic_ostream4Ccn0ALchar_traits4Cc___2l6Mi_r1_ agent/LiterateA.o
string::from(int)                   ddd.o
[...]

DDD 3.3.9 built successfully with Solaris Studio 12.4.  I tried that and gcc 4.8.2 with the result above.

Please assist.

Sincerely,
john
