Follow-up Comment #3, bug #61739 (project denemo):
"the idea of the AppImage was (?) the images are self contained"
the AppImage is self-contained only insofar as enough of the libraries are
included, evidently not enough for these newer distros. I haven't got a
current way of building these AppImages, but the flatpak version is being
maintained...
