For now, I would go with (B) as it seems the most reasonable.
What about creating a printing backend?
For the long term, I believe that this is the best idea. Either this
or the
use of a printing system which already allows is to have support for
several
different platforms.
GNUstep should have more "backends" as environmental hooks. GNUstep
should be
either self sufficient (default backend with full or dummy
functionality) or
it should use native host-environment capabilities. This applies to
other GUI
suff as well (Font Manager backend, Pasteboard, spelling, workspace,
...)
