The IconKit (hmm, not compiling _right now_ :-), but you could have
a look at the source) is currently hosted in the Étoilé cvs, Étoilé
is a small and innovative desktop environment project started by
Quentin, organized around an advanced workspace application designed
with Document store support in mind (a bit like Microsoft WinFS or
Apple Spotlight) and other things, a rough description of the project
can be found at https://gna.org/projects/etoile .
I'm quite interested in the "Document store support" and "search
(spotlight)" part.
I wrote MyLibrary (http://www.people.virginia.edu/~yc2w/MyLibrary)
partly because it's hard to find a cross-platform solution.
Most meta-data file system is tied with OS, or last least, file
manager.
In MyLibrary, you can drag a folder into the source table (left one)
and see the meta-data.
(requires 0.4.7 and is not tested on GNUstep yet).
I'm going to try again MyLibrary, I didn't tried it lately.
Search will come later because I need to reimplement the search GUI.
If Étoilé has a proposal on the search GUI and MVC model,
I would be very happy to adapt it and try to implement.
A MVC like model is planned, but if you have specific ideas on it, tell
me about them…
… otherwise system wide search UI will be loaded in any applications by
default. If you need something specifically tailored for your
application you will have to implement you own search UI, but you will
be able to use the search/indexing engine provided by Étoilé precisely
by the ExtendedWorkspaceKit.
Last point I must say, I will not been able to provide a truly working
implementation before October.
Quentin.
