The UUID displayed by dmidecode is already compatible with the SMBIOS
2.6 specification.
As I read it, your code does the exact opposite as what it claims to:
it wants to use the pre-2.6 byte order even on newer systems.
Anyway, this has been debated many times before, the bottom line is
that the DMTF messed up when changing the byte order in spec 2.6, and
there's no good solution to deal with that. Therefore I am not willing
to change anything in this area. dmidecode is in line with what the
kernel displays for the UUID on all systems and that's all that
matters.
