I think that we might agree on this.  I believe that this action was evil,
but that is because they are trying to control people and restrict choice.

Just so I understand your opinion better,consider this example:

Nintendo sales games.  Those games are proprietary.

I do not think that Nintendo's action of making games proprietary is
evil.  I do not see them having undue control.  People are not forced to
buy Nintendo.  People are free to make their own games, or get their games
someplace else.


On the other hand, I may of Microsoft actions are designed to lock
customers in.  Those actions are evil.

My question for you:
Do you consider Nintendo evil for keeping their games closed?

I'll try to explain:

Sharing software freely makes software that is of high quality, very
flexible and available to everyone.

Consequence:
- It brings technology to people that normally wouldn't have it.
- It evens out the playing field.  (e.g. poor countries can compete).
- It encourages the creation of technologies that help people.

These are consequences of the software *model*, but I like them because
they are *good*.
