There seems to be maintenance, though not as active as that in GCC;
see http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/clisp/clisp/ffcall/

It is maintained as part of Bruno Haible's GNU CLISP package, whose
latest release was mid-September, so there is motion.  I have inquired
further on the clisp-list.

But how you can encourage greater production of works in the 1920's by
