For what it's worth, I was trying to do something similar before -- use
cscc to compile against mono dlls but ran up against the same type of
problems.  One thing I noticed was that the mono corlib.dll contains an
"assembly extern mscorlib" reference.  I suspect that could cause
problems with pnet when it attempts to load the image and resolve that
external reference.
