Hi
I am already 16 years using Xubuntu or Antix and at the moment, I am looking for a GNU/Linux-Libre distro i could use for every day.
So I installed dragora 3.0 on a primary partition of my laptop - whitout own swap -
and tried it for a week.
I was thinking about donate, but I don't use paypal, cryptocurrency or Western union.
So I wrote some feed-back about my experience with dragora, maybe you can use somethings out of it.
Thank you for making dragora.
I enjoyed the very good translations of the system in french, which is my natural language.
I had a few problems installing and using dragora. I will describe these not on a chronologic way, but on a thematic one.
1. Finding packages during the installation
I was very thankfull for the installations-screenshots on the webpage.
But when it's going about install the packages, it was quite disturbing:
You get the feeling that you need a second installation-media with the packages, DVD or second USB.
If you have the dragora 3.0 on a USB-key, you have the packages on it and you don't need a second one.
Then, you can choose the second option.
2. key-mapping:
I use a de_CH keyboard an during the installation I had to remap the keyboard 3 times:
a. starting the install
b. after install, at the login
c. in the graphical session.
Maybe it would be possible to make the key-mapping persistent?
3. Infos about Install
Look at this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftSmIUig9rs
I found there 2 important Informations I didn't see in the dragora-documentation:
a). At O.23 min of th video.
You need startx if you want to start the graphical session. You need it for a live-session, but also for the installed one.
For me a command I never used on other distros.
b). At 4.00 min of the video. I realised, that you have first to download packages before installing them.
Qi doesn't work like APT.
4. groff
I installed groff using download and the qi-command. But it didn'nt work.
I am one of the guys who wrote this tutorial:
https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/tutoriel/groff_tuto
So I know a little bit how groff works.
I didn't found groff-base in the dragora filesystem.
I think it make no sense to have groff in the packages, if you dont have groff-base in the system.
5. Xfce
I tried to install Xfce packages to replace TDE. I use Xfce already long time and I feel at home with it.
But I didn't find it in the fsf-mirrors.
6. Lock session
I tried to lock the session, but I had no idea, how to come back :o)
So I had to reboot, but the session was still locked.
I had to remove .Xauthority file.
Conclusions
I think I cannot use dragora for my daily life, because I need a lot of programs like:
-gnome-evolution with ews-plugin for mailing
-qutebrowser for surfing
-mpv for looking videos
-redshift for my eyes
-musescore to arrange music
But I was glad to discover dragora and I learned a lot doing it.
With regards
G. Babey
