I did not copy my backups to that external drive, this is the original backup place.
Here is what happened. Deja Dup automatically did weekly backups to that very external drive. One day in December, some older backups got deleted from that external disk. I did three backups manually after that. My computer crashed during one or two of these processes but the last backup was complete. Deja Dup even told me that there were three complete backups to restore so I did not worry about data loss.
I sent my Computer to Dell to be fixed (but kept my external drive with the backup data and did not write/delete anything on/from there). The Dell people repaired/replaced the "Bottom Chassis, Processor, HArd Drive, Others and Windows Software". (They also sent back my old hard drive in a separate box.) When my computer was returned, I installed Ubuntu, started Deja Dup and was told that there was "No backups to restore". Nasty surprise...

you are missing crucial files for duplicity to work with the volumes. so regarding using duplicity you are out of luck.
did you copy your backup repository and missed some files in the process?
did the one backup i see finish successfully at all?

regarding on the importance of your missing data you could try
