Thanks, you're right, I have also successfully used backports in the past. 
I've updated and will now wait until the full backup runs again this Sunday.

You can install it from backports

add to your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://http.debian.net/debian wheezy-backports main

then
apt-get update
apt-get -t wheezy-backports install duplicity

you will get duplicity 0.6.24

I did not test it but backports usually work fine
