Follow-up Comment #3, bug #21646 (project duplicity):

The fact that the changes I made were not represented in the patch I put up
is part of the problem.  I just applied that patch to 0.4.4 and it failed. 
That implies that there were other changes I had made that worked, yet were
not part of the patch.

Absolutely none of this is your fault.  I should have retested it completely
after adding your patches and I did not.  Just got in a hurry and it bit me.
