Hola!

my grand-mother tongue is catala but I cannot speak or write, even less play scrabble ! what a pity!
Perdoni!

you are right, the problem, and many others ;-) was in mots.txt
All solved now.

I could play scrabble in bamana with Eliot yesterday late.
BUT : some word can be played by Eliot, but if I try to play the same word, my word is refused.
simple words like "mana" which does not involved special bamabara characters.
Others work... not clear.

My "lettres.txt" characters are all in lower case. Could this be an issue ? When I play, everything is in capital letters.
However, I discovered a problem in the UTF-8 encoding : I switched editors to be able to sort and eliminate duplicates automatically (PSPAD), and now the UTF-8 encoding is not identified by the other word processor (Libre Office). I need to clarify this before I can complain at all !!!

More news later. Back to "work".

Hi,

I'm not Eliot developer, but years ago I deal with some encoding problems. Some tips:

mots.txt must contain a single word by line, utf8 encoded.
All chars in mots.txt must be "playable", i.e., a tile/char must be defined in lettres.txt

May be the error refeers to mots.txt file, can you write the 5th line of mots.txt?

Bambara (or bamanakan) is a language of West Africa.
I'd love to promote the use of this scrabble game.
This language has an alphabet that include 4 characters which require Unicode UTF-8 encoding.

I stumble across an error message when trying to load the letters file "lettres.txt" in compdic :

compdic -d "Nom du dictionnaire" -i mots.txt -l lettres.txt -o bamanakan.dawg

Here is the start of the list in the UTF-8 encoded text file :
a  1 15 1 0
b  1  5 0 1
c  8  1 0 1
d  3  2 0 1
e  1  6 1 0
ɛ  1  6 1 0

not sure the problem is on the "ɛ" character (line 6 to me).
Thanks for help. I can of course send the file(s) if required.

compdic -d "Nom du dictionnaire" -i mots.txt -l lettres.txt -o bamanakan.dawg

a  1 15 1 0
b  1  5 0 1
c  8  1 0 1
d  3  2 0 1
e  1  6 1 0
ɛ  1  6 1 0
