`visible-whitespace-mode'
Look at http://www.cpqd.com.br/~vinicius/emacs/ blank-mode.el
Anyone have any comments on this? Is it an appropriate thing to add
to emacs?
I have just run both.
* `blank-mode' has better documentation, but the default puts white
space in the blanks, which looks harsh to me. Indeed, to read
the file, I had to turn blank mode off.
`blank-mode' provides a good deal of customization; if its default
were nicer, and included an end-of-line marker, I would like it.
* `visible-whitespace-mode' lacks good documentation. On the other
hand, its default uses markers that are nice and soft on my
screen. The library displays spaces and tabs differently, and
marks the ends of lines with a $, a feature I really like.
Right now, I would use `visible-whitespace-mode', because its defaults
are easier on my eyes and more helpful than those in `blank-mode'.
However, it looks to me that `blank-mode' is more general and more
powerful than `visws'. I would like to see `blank-mode' adapt the
differing kinds of graphic indication that `visible-whitespace-mode'
uses, and provide an end-of-line marker. In addition, its default
should be soft on the eyes, not harsh and unreadable.
`blank-mode.el' is a more self-explanatory file name than `visws.el'.
`visible-whitespace-mode' is a more self-explanatory mode name than
`blank-mode'.
