For reveal-mode, we should just provide a "pre-redisplay-hook" run, as the
name indicates, just before doing redisplay.
I get a bad feeling about making redisplay itself do this.
That is certainly too radical to do now, and may be simply a bad idea.
I would rather have a subroutine that can be called by things
like isearch and query-replace.
