OK. You're proposing a new feature, unrelated to image auto-detection
via contents. Currently, `set-auto-mode' sets the mode to `image-mode'
(via `auto-mode-alist'), and then the image handling code (image.el,
image-file.el, etc.) decides the correct image type.
