It's not. The goal is to enable it by default.

You didn't bring up this point (you suggested an improvement
I can agree to to and another one that doesn't apply).
Eli was concerned about performance, but the
suggested benchmarks so far all point to "little to no
impact".
So can you explain your new objection?
