Actually, it was due to a mistake in the documentation that the
discussion was started.  Such a mistake could happen anywhere, even
inside a book.

Then the discussion turned from "why doesn't it work" to "what would be
the best interface to expose for this".  Once again, not something a
book can solve.

I don't have a lot of time to work on Emacs, I just try to make good use
of the time I do have (which probably comes out to around 1/7th of each
day.)
