Continuing the discussion about branches:

Note that if there's a change that can be mostly done within lava
directories, then you don't need to make a branch: lava is still
a free-range area. It's then better to just merge into mainline
often for others to see.

Branches are for things that have a chance of breaking other people's
stuff and can't be done in lava (i.e. changing APIs &c).
