Dan, you should be able to do a local install of Python 2.3 into /usr/ local (not via the package system, but manually), and then use that python to do a manul install of Zope 2.8 into /usr/local as well. This would actually be a recommended way to do it in a production server anyway, because then you have full control over the software components of your service, including the ability to customize or patch them if the need arises. And this way these older versions of software won't affect the normal operation of your linux box.

Thanks for the suggestions Tarmo.

I tried installing the earlier version, but it wasn't compatible with my version of Python, so rather than installing an older version of Python, etc., I installed Zope-2.8.6-final on a Windows XP machine and it works just fine. I'd prefer to get it up and running on Linux, mainly because if I ever actually use FLE3 on a public server, it would be on Linux, but in
the meantime this will allow me to play around with it.

Thanks again for the help. FLE3 looks like an excellent tool.

Hello,

It looks like this list hasn't seen any activity for a while, so if
discussion of FLE3 has moved elsewhere, please let me know.

This is the first I've tried to install FLE3, and I'm new to Zope. My problem is that I've installed everything, but FLE3 isn't showing in the
Products list as in the installation documentation.

This seems to be the same problem discussed on the thread
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/fle3-users/2006-09/msg00001.html.

Zope seems to be running fine. I have no problem logging on at
localhost:8080. Here's my environment (Fedora Core 10 x64):

Zope Version (Zope 2.10.6-final, python 2.4.5, linux2)

Python Version 2.4.5 (#1, Sep 27 2008, 17:00:32) [GCC 4.3.2 20080905 (Red
Hat 4.3.2-3)]

System Platform linux2

SOFTWARE_HOME /usr/lib64/zope/lib/python

ZOPE_HOME /usr/lib64/zope

INSTANCE_HOME /var/lib/zope

CLIENT_HOME /var/lib/zope/var

Network Services ZServer.HTTPServer.zhttp_server (Port: 8080)

I've tried placing the FLE3 folder in both
/usr/lib64/zope/lib/python/Products and /var/lib/zope/Products, and
setting chmod to 775, but it's still a no show.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi. The list is still is use, although quite quiet, as you noticed.

Fle3 is now quite old, and doesn't really understand the newer Zope
versions very well. I'd say you need to downgrade your Zope to
something like Zope 2.8.x. We run 2.8.7 and that works.

We've been in the process of porting Fle3 onto a newer platform, which
would make it run on newer Zope 2 versions, but as we currently have
no budget for this, work isn't progressing very well. We're hoping to
get some funding soon.

What you can do is start your Zope in debug mode (instead of "start"
say "fg" for foreground or "debug"), which will show status messages
on the console, and in the case of a product error will terminate.

If you have the energy to figure out the incompatibilities between
Fle3 and new Zopes, go ahead. My estimate is that there are too many
major changes in the Zope infrastructure to make it feasible. So my
suggestion is to downgrade to the latest Zope 2.8 and try with that.

Best of luck!
