Its about breaking library compatibility and API compatibility. But as
mentioned by Pedro, the old FluidSynth library can be installed along
side the new one. So older applications will continue to work, but any
program which wants to take advantage of newer developments will need to
change their code to interface to the new library.
Hope that explains it well enough. To the user, there shouldn't be a
lot of difference, except for the added functionality of FluidSynth 2.0
of course.
